Mayoral bet in place between Ottawa and New York City
Ottawa – As the Ottawa Senators and New York Rangers prepare to face-off in the first round of the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Mayor Jim Watson and Mayor Michael Bloomberg have agreed upon a friendly bet in support of their respective teams.
“I’m excited about this bet and thank Mayor Bloomberg for taking part in it with me,” said Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson. "Our Senators have proven themselves to be underdogs who can win, and I – along with the entire Sens Army - firmly believe they can go all the way to the Stanley Cup. Of course, it’s also nice to know that when we do win round one, the icing on the cake will be blue."
If the Senators win the series, Mayor Bloomberg will send, in recognition of the New York Rangers blue home jerseys, blueberry cheesecake from Court Pastry Shop in Brooklyn to Mayor Watson. In addition, he will tweet from New York City’s official Twitter account, @NYCMayorsOffice, congratulating the Senators for their victory along with a congratulatory message and a #FollowFriday tweet encouraging users to follow the winning City’s Twitter account, @OttawaCity.
“With the New York Giants Super Bowl victory still on our minds, I know New Yorkers are excited for another champion run by our Blueshirts – and I thank Mayor Watson for joining me on this friendly wager,” said Mayor Bloomberg. “The beaver has been an indelible part of our City’s seal for hundreds of years, and we are looking forward to not only winning the Beavertail pastry, but also gaining some new Canadian Twitter followers.”
If the Rangers win the series, Mayor Watson will send, in honour of the iconic Ottawa pastry, a BeaverTail to Mayor Bloomberg as well as a tweet congratulating the Rangers for their victory and a #FollowFriday tweet encouraging users to follow the winning City’s Twitter account, @NYCMayorsOffice.
Game one of the best-of-seven series starts tonight in New York at 7:00 p.m. EST.
