• Mayor’s City Builder Award – Ms. Wendy Daniels

Mayor Jim Watson and Ward Councillor Doug Thompson today presented the Mayor’s City Builder Award to Ms. Wendy Daniels for her outstanding volunteer service as a promoter, event host and emcee for many local charities and cultural events, as well as a proud supporter of the men and women who serve Canada in our Armed Forces.

Wendy Daniels is the afternoon drive show on-air personality for radio station BOOM 99.7. She was previously heard on Ottawa’s airwaves as a deejay for The Bear and CFRA.

Ms. Daniels uses her public voice for good, helping many charities and events to raise funds and perform all kinds of public services. She consistently encourages philanthropy and promotes her adopted home city of Ottawa.

She volunteers annually to host or co-host events such as the CHEO Telethon, the Max Keeping Bowl-a-Thon for CHEO, the Dickinson Days Parade in Manotick, the Run for Miracles and the Army Run. She hosts various Red Friday events for military families, and made two trips to Afghanistan.

She is the media spokesperson for Hopeful Hearts Dog Rescue and a former member of the board of directors of the Ottawa Humane Society.

She played a central role in the rescue of a dog from a village on Hudson’s Bay. After a radio listener alerted her to the dog’s plight, she secured a flight for the dog on Air Inuit from the north to Montréal (she drove to Montréal and brought the dog back to Ottawa), she secured a travel crate from Hopeful Hearts Dog Rescue, and she helped raise over $3,000 for the dog’s care.
