    Ottawa – Ottawa 2017 and Mayor Jim Watson, in collaboration with lead partner CIBC, are excited to launch the Canadian Videogame Competition and Expo, which begins today and runs until Saturday.

    This Ottawa 2017 Signature Event offers residents and visitors an opportunity to test their gaming skills in a fun and interactive environment, while also learning about new and existing locally-based game companies.

    Gamers are invited to join this FREE two-part event:

    • From Monday, November 13 to Friday, November 17, participants have the chance to play the new Super Mario Odyssey in different locations across the city and win prizes from Porter, VIA Rail and Roots. Local gaming companies will also be featured.
    • On Saturday, November 18, participants can compete for a $10,000 prize pool with an open bracket tournament featuring Rocket League and FIFA 18.

    Additionally, on November 18, a special expo will highlight locally-based game companies, as well as international game developers. Participants are invited to come and see what local companies are up to and how important Ottawa’s game development industry is on a global scale. They can meet local talent, developers and publishers, plus get the opportunity to play all kinds of new games!

    Ottawa 2017’s newest Agri 150 experience takes place this Saturday

    Ottawa – Ottawa 2017, in collaboration with lead partner CIBC, is pleased to announce a new Agri 150 experience. A free, fun-filled day will unfold this weekend at the Just Food Farm with Good Food Celebrations.

    Residents and visitors are invited to celebrate the importance of good food, grown both locally and globally. Participants will be able to:

    • Discover the new community pavilion, new solar project showpiece, and the newly renovated community barn;
    • Take a wagon ride or walking tour and learn more about what is growing at the farm;
    • View a new community art show and new food forests;
    • Listen to live musicians, including Canadian singer/songwriter Eva Avila;
    • Hear two inspiring young speakers who connect local to global food;
    • Taste local food samples* (free samples created by Red Apron, food options for purchase, and people are also encouraged to bring their own picnics);
    • Enjoy a free sample of Beau’s craft beer* (19 years +).

  • Experience Mìwàte!

    Free dynamic lighting experience at the Chaudière Falls

    Ottawa – The Ottawa 2017 Bureau, in collaboration with lead partner CIBC, are thrilled to launch Mìwàte: Illumination of Chaudière Falls. The experience officially opens to the public tomorrow at 7 p.m., offering the first public access in decades to one of the region’s most impressive natural landmarks.

    ABOUT MÌWÀTE

    Based on an original concept by Ottawa 2017, Mìwàte was created and produced by the Ottawa 2017 Bureau and Moment Factory, in collaboration with the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan, and in consultation with representatives from local Métis and Inuit communities. This dynamic illumination of Chaudière Falls celebrates the Indigenous Peoples of Canada and their cultures.

    A rich soundscape accompanies the experience. Vincent Letellier led the team of composers for Moment Factory, with additional creative contributions from David Maracle, and regional music artists as well as Pikwakanagan community members who spoke some of the words and phrases that are heard as part of the production in Anishnaabe.

    In addition to the illumination, participants are invited to explore the Algonquin Awareness Exhibit, which shares information on the presence of Indigenous Peoples in the region. This special exhibit is presented on site by the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan.

    Dates and times for Mìwàte:

    • October 6 to 22, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
    • October 23 to November 5, from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

    The lighting display runs in a continuous 10-minute loop. It takes about 30 minutes to enjoy the entire experience.

    Spectators can view Mìwàte from the new public space overlooking the falls that is part of Hydro Ottawa’s Chaudière Falls expansion project. Information about eh experience and nearby parking can be found at: http://www.ottawa2017.ca/magnificence-of-chaudiere-falls/.

    As a complement to Mìwàte, visitors are encouraged to visit the Kabeshinân Minitig Pavilion located on Victoria Island.

    Ottawa – The Ottawa 2017 Bureau, in collaboration with lead partner CIBC, are excited to announce that Mìwàte: Illumination of Chaudière Falls, will premiere the evening of Thursday, October 5 and officially open to the public on Friday, October 6 at 7 p.m.

    Created and produced by the Ottawa 2017 Bureau and Moment Factory, in collaboration with the Algonquins of Pikwàkanagàn, and in consultation with representatives from local Métis and Inuit communities, this dynamic illumination of the falls will celebrate the Indigenous Peoples of Canada and their cultures.

    Tickets go on sale tomorrow at noon for Ottawa 2017’s newest Agri 150 event

    Ottawa –Ottawa 2017, in collaboration with lead partner CIBC, are pleased to announce the newest Agri 150 experience. Tickets for the Enviro-Cycle Tour go on sale tomorrow at noon.

    ENVIRO-CYCLE TOUR ($)

    First tour group (72 km): 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
    Second tour group (21 km): 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
    Tour shuttle for Group 2 will depart from OC Transpo’s Leitrim Park & Ride, at 4600 Gilligan Rd.

    Come experience the countryside by bicycle, and visit some of the eco-friendly businesses and public spaces in Ottawa’s rural area.

    There are two options: tackle the entire 72 km route with your own bike, or bus part way and cycle the 21 km route with a bike provided by RentABike. Whichever route you choose, all attendees will get the pleasure of visiting Castor River Farm, a sustainable off-grid farm, SunTech Greenhouses, where vegetables are grown year-round, and W.A. Taylor Conservation area for a rest between, as you sample Savour Ottawa treats. So, hop on and let your RentABike guides and local farmers bring you on a day full of fun, learning, and exercise!

    A tour ticket enables free use of any OC Transpo bus route, to and from the Leitrim Park & Ride. Tickets are to be shown to the bus operator when boarding. Free service is available from three hours before the tour until three hours after the tour.

    Ottawa – Ottawa 2017, in collaboration with lead partner CIBC, invites media to capture captivating and colourful images of Waterdance, a free Ignite 150 event taking place throughout the city this Saturday.   • Final week to experience Kontinuum

    Ottawa – Ottawa 2017, in collaboration with lead partner CIBC, wishes to remind residents and visitors that there is only one week left to see Kontinuum: An Underground Journey Through Time. To date, close to 300,000 people have experienced this Ottawa 2017 Signature Event, which ends on Thursday, September 14.

    ***Changes to opening hours on Saturday, September 9: Due to a planned power outage by Brookfield Property Partners in the area where the event takes place, opening hours for Kontinuum will be from 8 p.m. until midnight, exceptionally on Saturday, September 9.

    ABOUT KONTINUUM

    Created and produced by the Ottawa 2017 Bureau and Moment Factory, and based on an original concept by Ottawa 2017, this impressive world-first underground multimedia production, powered by Bell, takes place in the Lyon Station of the yet to be opened Light Rail Transit (LRT) system.

    The story premise for Kontinuum: An Underground Journey Through Time is that a crevice in the fabric of reality was discovered during excavation of the LRT tunnel. Since this discovery, inexplicable electromagnetic waves have been appearing in and around the tunnel, captivating the imagination of passersby. It is an immersive, dynamic and moving experience, using the full 500-metre length of the station, where participants will be exposed to the hidden frequencies of the material world.

  • Final day to enjoy Inspiration Village

    Ottawa – As the final day for Inspiration Village gets underway today, Ottawa 2017 and Mayor Watson, in collaboration with lead partner CIBC, would like to thank residents, visitors, volunteers, artists and partners for their enthusiastic participation in making this free ephemeral entertainment locale a success.

    To date, more than 340,000 people have visited the celebration hub in the ByWard Market since it opened on May 20. Of the participants surveyed, 49% were visitors to Ottawa. Inspiration Village has an 87% satisfaction rate.

    From noon until 8 pm, the final day will be action-packed with activities and performances in a highly festive atmosphere. View details online.
